Pune, 3 November 2026: Dnyaan Prasad Global University (DPGU), by Dr. D. Y. Patil Group, Pune, recently took its students out of the lecture hall and into the real world of luxury hospitality. The School for Hospitality and Tourism at Dnyaan Prasad Global University (DPGU), by Dr. D. Y. Patil Group, Pune, organised its “Hotel as a Classroom” initiative at The Ritz-Carlton, Pune.
The idea behind this initiative is simple. Hospitality is a people-first industry, and many of its most important lessons cannot be learned from textbooks alone. Students need to see how a hotel actually works, how teams talk to each other, and how small details come together to make a guest feel truly welcome. With this thought, Dnyaan Prasad Global University (DPGU), by Dr. D. Y. Patil Group, Pune, chose one of the most respected luxury hotel brands in the world as the learning space for its students.
The Room Division Manager, Training Manager and Quality Manager conducted insightful sessions for the students on Rooms Division Management, Guest Experiences, and Creating WOW Moments for Guests. They also shared practical insights into the professional service standards followed at The Ritz-Carlton, Pune, and how discipline, grooming, teamwork and attention to detail shape the daily operations of a leading luxury hotel. The experience helped students connect their classroom learning with real-world industry practices and understand the expectations of the hospitality sector.
One of the biggest takeaways for the students was the understanding of how exceptional guest experiences are created. In luxury hospitality, a guest does not remember only the room or the food. A guest remembers how they were treated, how quickly their needs were understood and how warmly they were greeted. Seeing this culture in action gave the students a better idea of the attitude and mindset needed to build a long and successful career in this field.
The “Hotel as a Classroom” initiative also gave students a chance to interact with the industry environment, ask questions and clear their doubts. Such exposure builds confidence and helps young learners understand the different career paths available in the hospitality and tourism sector. It also helps them see the value of communication skills, professional behaviour and a service-first approach, which are essential in every area of hospitality.
Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Somnath P. Patil, Pro-Chancellor, Dnyaan Prasad Global University (DPGU), by Dr. D. Y. Patil Group, Pune, said, “At Dnyaan Prasad Global University (DPGU), by Dr. D. Y. Patil Group, Pune, we believe that real learning happens when students see theory come alive in front of them. Hospitality is a field where you learn by observing, experiencing and doing. Our ‘Hotel as a Classroom’ initiative at The Ritz-Carlton, Pune, gave our students a rare chance to understand world-class service standards up close. We want our students to grow into confident and responsible professionals, and experiences like this help us move one step closer to that goal.”
DPGU School for Hospitality and Tourism continues to focus on practical, industry-based learning as a key part of its academic approach. Through hotel visits, industry interactions and hands-on exposure, the school aims to prepare students who are not only well-informed but also ready to meet the demands of the fast-growing hospitality sector. The motto of the school, “Redefining Hospitality Excellence”, reflects this commitment to quality education and real-world readiness.
The visit was an enriching experience for everyone who took part. It brought students closer to industry practices and reminded them that the best lessons are often learned where the industry comes alive. Dnyaan Prasad
Global University (DPGU), by Dr. D. Y. Patil Group, Pune, will continue to organise such learning experiences so that its students get a strong foundation for a bright future in hospitality and tourism.
