668-Metre Four-Lane ROB to Replace Level Crossing Gate, Improve Access to Guntur City and Support Faster Movement of Residents, Travellers and Commercial Traffic

Indian Railways has laid the foundation stone for a ₹108-crore, four-lane Road Over Bridge (ROB) between Guntur and Nambur railway stations in Andhra Pradesh, marking a step towards improving urban mobility and rail-road connectivity in Guntur.

The 668-metre bridge, fully funded by the Ministry of Railways, will replace Level Crossing Gate No. 3 on the Guntur–Krishna Canal section of the Guntur–Nambur line. Located near Guntur’s Inner Ring Road, the ROB will directly connect Bus Stand Road with Gorantla Village.

Construction is scheduled to commence shortly.

Key Highlights

  • ₹108 crore sanctioned for the four-lane Road Over Bridge.
  • 668-metre bridge to replace Level Crossing Gate No. 3.
  • Entire project cost to be funded by the Ministry of Railways.
  • Located on the Guntur–Krishna Canal section of the Guntur–Nambur line.
  • Connects Bus Stand Road, Inner Ring Road and Gorantla Village.
  • Requires approximately 2.9 acres of land.
  • Designed to reduce traffic waiting time and vehicle detention at the level crossing.
  • Expected to improve road mobility, fuel efficiency and rail operations.
  • Part of wider railway infrastructure and station modernisation works underway in Andhra Pradesh.

Four-Lane ROB to Remove a Major Urban Traffic Bottleneck

The new ROB will replace the existing level crossing at Gate No. 3, allowing road traffic to pass over the railway line without waiting for trains.

With four lanes, the bridge is expected to improve the movement of vehicles between key parts of Guntur and surrounding areas. Reduced stoppages at the railway crossing could also help lower fuel consumption and travel delays.

For commuters, businesses and visitors, smoother road movement can improve overall accessibility to Guntur’s commercial and urban areas.

Strengthening Rail-Road Connectivity in Guntur

The project is part of Indian Railways’ broader focus on eliminating level crossings through Road Over Bridges and Road Under Bridges, with the objective of improving safety and operational efficiency.

By separating road and rail traffic, the Guntur–Nambur ROB is expected to reduce vehicle detention while supporting more efficient train operations on the corridor.

The development also complements wider railway infrastructure investment in Andhra Pradesh. According to the PIB release, 74 railway stations in the state are being upgraded with modern amenities, with an investment of ₹3,500 crore.

Impact on Travel, Hospitality & Tourism

Improved urban road connectivity can have a wider effect on the movement of travellers and the local visitor economy.

For Guntur, the new ROB could support:

  • Easier city access: Faster road movement can improve access to hotels, restaurants, commercial centres and visitor destinations.
  • Airport and rail connectivity: Smoother urban traffic can make onward journeys from transport hubs more predictable.
  • Business travel: Reduced congestion can improve mobility for corporate and commercial visitors.
  • Hospitality operations: Better road access can facilitate movement of hotel staff, guests, food supplies and other logistics.
  • Local tourism: Improved mobility can make attractions and surrounding areas more accessible to visitors.
  • Inter-city movement: Better road connectivity between Guntur and nearby settlements can support regional travel and short-distance tourism.

The tourism and hospitality benefits will depend on the bridge’s completion, traffic patterns and the development of complementary visitor infrastructure.

Industry Takeaway

The ₹108-crore Guntur–Nambur ROB represents more than a road infrastructure upgrade. By removing a level crossing and creating a four-lane connection, the project is designed to improve the flow of both road and rail traffic in an important urban area.

For the hospitality and travel sector, reliable urban mobility is an important part of the visitor experience. Reduced congestion around key access routes can support business travel, local tourism, hotel accessibility and movement of goods and services, strengthening the broader travel ecosystem as Guntur’s transport infrastructure develops.
