The Ministry of Tourism is preparing to implement Special Campaign 6.0 from October 2 to 31, 2026, as part of the Government of India’s nationwide drive focused on Swachhata and reducing administrative pendency. This year, the campaign will place additional emphasis on the collection, segregation and disposal of e-waste.

The campaign will cover the Ministry’s offices, institutes and domestic establishments, with particular attention to field and outstation offices that provide public services.

Key Highlights

  • Special Campaign 6.0: October 2–31, 2026.
  • Focus on Swachhata and reduction of pendency.
  • Special emphasis on e-waste collection, segregation and disposal.
  • Preparatory phase conducted from September 15–30.
  • Targets include redundant material disposal, scrap management and space optimisation.
  • Campaign will cover field and outstation offices alongside Ministries, attached offices, autonomous bodies and PSUs.
  • Special Campaign 5.0 freed 92,749 sq. ft. of space and generated ₹12.69 lakh through scrap disposal.
  • Previous campaign also resulted in the weeding out of 4,700 physical files and closure of 1,100 electronic files.

Tourism Ministry Identifies Campaign Priorities

As part of the preparatory phase, the Ministry of Tourism held a meeting with its programme divisions, institutes and domestic offices on September 16 to establish implementation targets for Special Campaign 6.0.

The preparations include identifying pending references, cleanliness campaign sites and redundant materials, along with planning for space management and scrap disposal.

The Ministry is also focusing on record management and improving the systems used for collecting and segregating e-waste before its disposal.

The implementation phase will begin on October 2 following the completion of the preparatory activities on September 30.

Building on Special Campaign 5.0

The Ministry’s previous campaign generated measurable administrative and cleanliness outcomes.

During Special Campaign 5.0, the Ministry reported:

  • 92,749 sq. ft. of space freed
  • ₹12.69 lakh generated through scrap disposal
  • 4,700 physical files weeded out
  • 1,100 electronic files closed
  • 413 Swachhata programmes conducted across the country

Special Campaign 6.0 will build on these activities while adding a stronger focus on the responsible management of electronic waste.

What It Means for Hospitality, Travel & Tourism

While Special Campaign 6.0 is primarily an administrative initiative, its emphasis on cleanliness, responsible waste management and efficient public offices is relevant to the wider tourism ecosystem.

Tourism destinations depend heavily on cleanliness and efficient civic infrastructure, particularly in areas receiving large visitor volumes. Greater attention to waste segregation and disposal within tourism-related government establishments can complement broader efforts around clean destinations and responsible tourism.

The e-waste focus is also relevant to the hospitality sector, where hotels, offices, tourism facilities and other businesses regularly replace electronic equipment such as computers, networking equipment, televisions and other devices.

For the travel and tourism industry, the campaign reinforces several operational priorities:

  • Cleaner tourism infrastructure and public-facing facilities
  • Better management of waste generated by tourism establishments
  • Greater awareness around e-waste segregation and disposal
  • Improved efficiency in government offices supporting tourism services
  • More organised records and administrative processes

Industry Takeaway

Special Campaign 6.0 places Swachhata, administrative efficiency and e-waste management at the centre of the Tourism Ministry’s October programme. Beyond government offices, the campaign aligns with the broader tourism industry’s growing focus on cleaner destinations, responsible resource management and more sustainable visitor infrastructure.

For hospitality and tourism businesses, responsible e-waste disposal can complement existing sustainability initiatives covering food waste, water, energy and solid-waste management.
