Impact on Hospitality, Travel and Tourism
The 14th International Tourism Mart has direct relevance for India’s hospitality and travel industry, particularly businesses looking to tap into the emerging tourism markets of Northeast India.
1. International market access for hotels and resorts
The participation of 43 international buyers from 22 countries creates opportunities for regional hotels, resorts and hospitality operators to establish partnerships with overseas travel companies and attract international visitors.
2. Growth of experiential and adventure tourism
Tawang’s monasteries, lakes, waterfalls, mountain landscapes and rural experiences offer opportunities to develop specialised travel packages covering spiritual, cultural, nature and adventure tourism.
3. Food tourism and regional culinary promotion
The North East Bazaar’s regional cuisine showcase highlights the potential of local food traditions as a tourism product. Restaurants, culinary tour operators and hospitality establishments can incorporate regional food experiences into destination offerings.
4. Opportunities for local hospitality entrepreneurs
B2B interactions can help smaller accommodation providers, homestays, local guides, transport operators and destination management companies connect with organised domestic and international travel networks.
5. Growth of events and MICE tourism
Discussions around the live events and concert economy could create opportunities for hotels, event venues, catering companies and destination management businesses across the Northeast.
6. Promotion of longer regional itineraries
Joint tourism presentations by all eight states can encourage multi-destination travel circuits, potentially increasing visitor stays and spending across the region rather than concentrating tourism in individual destinations.
Industry Takeaway
The 14th International Tourism Mart represents an important platform for positioning Northeast India as a diversified tourism destination. With international buyers, regional tourism businesses and government stakeholders coming together, the event focuses on converting the region’s natural, cultural, spiritual and culinary attractions into marketable tourism experiences.
For the hospitality industry, the opportunity extends beyond destination promotion. Hotels, resorts, homestays, restaurants, tour operators and local experience providers can benefit from stronger international partnerships, improved destination visibility and the development of specialised travel products.
