New Delhi, August 7, 2026: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has invited nominations for the National Gopal Ratna Award (NGRA) 2026, recognising contributions to India’s dairy sector and the development of indigenous bovine breeds.

The awards are being organised under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM), which was launched in December 2014 to conserve and scientifically develop India’s indigenous cattle and buffalo breeds.

Since 2021, the National Gopal Ratna Award has been presented annually to recognise the contribution of dairy farmers, dairy cooperatives, milk producer companies, farmer producer organisations and artificial insemination technicians.

Three Categories for National Gopal Ratna Award 2026

The 2026 awards will recognise achievements in three categories:

• Best Dairy Farmer rearing indigenous cattle or buffalo breeds
• Best Dairy Cooperative Society (DCS), Milk Producer Company (MPC) or Dairy Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO)
• Best Artificial Insemination Technician (AIT)

A Special Award for the North Eastern Region (NER) and Himalayan States has also been included to encourage dairy development in these regions.

Winners will be recognised with first, second and third ranks, along with one special award for the NER/Himalayan category in each eligible award category.

Cash Awards Up to ₹5 Lakh

For the Best Dairy Farmer and Best DCS/FPO/MPC categories, the award includes a certificate of merit, memento and cash prize.

The prize structure is:

• First Rank: ₹5 lakh
• Second Rank: ₹3 lakh
• Third Rank: ₹2 lakh
• Special Award – NER/Himalayan States: ₹2 lakh

For the Best Artificial Insemination Technician category, winners will receive a certificate of merit and memento. No cash prize has been provided for this category.

Nominations Open August 10

Nominations for National Gopal Ratna Award 2026 will be accepted online through the National Awards Portal from August 10, 2026.

The deadline for submission is September 10, 2026.

The awards will be conferred on November 26, 2026, observed as National Milk Day.
