Waste-to-Wealth Initiatives Promote Sustainable Workplace Practices

The subordinate offices of DAHD actively participated in Special Campaign 6.0 by organising activities centred on cleanliness, environmental sustainability and creative reuse of discarded materials.

A key focus was the concept of ‘Waste to Wealth’, encouraging offices to transform unused and discarded materials into useful products through innovative reuse practices.

These activities aimed to promote awareness about waste management, resource conservation and responsible workplace practices while reducing waste generation.

The initiatives also supported the broader objectives of improving cleanliness and creating an environmentally responsible working culture across the Department’s offices.

Shramdaan Activity Held at Krishi Bhawan

As part of the campaign, DAHD organised a Shramdaan activity at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi, on October 31, 2026, under the leadership of Secretary Shri Naresh Pal Gangwar.

Officials participated in the cleanliness drive, reaffirming their commitment to workplace hygiene and collective responsibility.

The programme concluded with the distribution of Swachhata Kits by the Secretary to housekeeping staff and officials, recognising the importance of their contribution to maintaining clean and hygienic workplaces.

Impact on Hospitality, Food Service and Travel & Tourism

Although Special Campaign 6.0 primarily focuses on government office administration, its emphasis on cleanliness, waste management, resource conservation and responsible disposal of materials has relevance for the wider hospitality and tourism industry.

1. Hotel and Restaurant Waste Management

The campaign’s waste-to-wealth approach offers a relevant model for hotels, restaurants, cafés and institutional kitchens to improve waste segregation, recycling and the reuse of suitable materials.

2. Sustainable Hospitality Operations

The focus on workplace cleanliness and environmental responsibility reinforces practices that hospitality businesses can adopt across kitchens, guest areas, housekeeping departments and back-of-house operations.

3. Food Waste Reduction and Resource Efficiency

The campaign’s broader resource-conservation approach aligns with opportunities for food businesses to reduce wastage, improve inventory management and explore responsible disposal and recycling systems.

4. Tourism Destination Cleanliness

Cleanliness initiatives and responsible waste management are important for maintaining visitor-friendly destinations. Similar practices across hotels, public facilities, tourist attractions and transport hubs can contribute to better visitor experiences.

5. Institutional and Public-Sector Good Governance

The campaign’s focus on timely grievance disposal and administrative efficiency also highlights the importance of responsive public services, which support the wider tourism and hospitality ecosystem.

Cleanliness and Administrative Reforms Remain Key Campaign Priorities

DAHD’s Special Campaign 6.0 achievements highlight the Department’s efforts to improve workplace cleanliness, reduce administrative pendency, strengthen record management and promote responsible resource utilisation.

The cleaning of 247 sites, disposal of more than 10,700 physical files and generation of approximately ₹25.93 lakh through scrap disposal demonstrate the scale of activities undertaken during the month-long exercise.

For the hospitality and tourism industry, the campaign’s emphasis on cleanliness, waste reduction and sustainable resource management reinforces operational practices that are increasingly important for responsible hospitality and destination management.
