Big names, bigger hearts. For the first time, 25 high-quality, low-price, family-run restaurants take centre stage at the Hospitality Hope Icon Awards – Dubai Premiere. And every meal costs under AED 100!

Would you believe that beyond Dubai’s celebrated luxury dining scene lies an extraordinary world of affordable, authentic food, reflecting the culinary traditions of more than 200 communities?

Dubai, UAE – 21 October 2026: Dubai may be synonymous with glittering skyscrapers, extravagant restaurants and some of the world’s most luxurious dining experiences. But beyond the bling lies another Dubai. One of humble family kitchens, recipes passed down through generations, extraordinary flavours and meals costing less than AED 100.

For the first time, 25 of these largely unsung culinary gems were brought into the spotlight, celebrated not for celebrity chefs, glamorous interiors or expensive menus, but for the authenticity, affordability, quality and love behind their food.

The occasion was the Hospitality Hope Icon Awards – Dubai Premiere, held on 20 October 2026 at the International Centre for Culinary Arts (ICCA), Dubai, Middle East’s leading culinary institution. Founded by internationally acclaimed food writer, author and television host Rashmi Uday Singh, the independent, self-financed, not-for-profit initiative made its international awards debut with a mission to recognise the people who form the often-overlooked heart of Dubai’s dining culture.

And in a remarkable reversal of roles, some of Dubai’s biggest culinary superstars came together not to receive awards, but to present them.

Chef Mohammad Orfali, Chef Salam Daqqaq, Chef Himanshu Saini, Chef Reif Othman, Chef Andy Cuthbert, Chef Kyung Soo Moon, Chef Kelvin Cheung and other leading culinary figures lent their support to the initiative.

They were joined by prominent hospitality personalities including Panchali Mahendra, Jeff Strachan, Olivera Saponic, Hubert Sepidnam ( popularly known as Mr. Taster), Sherif Tamin, Cláudia de Brito and Sunjeh Raja, among others.

Many of these personalities had accompanied Singh on her extensive research and filming journeys, introducing her to hidden culinary treasures and the families behind them.

The result was an evening in which internationally celebrated names shared their spotlight with independent restaurateurs whose contributions have rarely received such recognition.

MORE THAN 200 COMMUNITIES. COUNTLESS CULINARY TRADITIONS. MEALS UNDER AED 100.

Dubai is home to more than 200 communities, each contributing its own flavours, traditions and culinary heritage to the city.

Beyond its globally celebrated restaurants lies a remarkable and often overlooked world of affordable dining. From Iranian kebabs and Karachi-style biryani to Ethiopian specialities, Filipino family recipes, Japanese noodles, authentic South Indian vegetarian food and traditional Emirati seafood, Dubai’s multicultural identity is perhaps most vividly expressed through these humble dining experiences.

Hospitality Hope set out to uncover this Dubai: a city where extraordinary food does not require an extraordinary budget.

The 25 awardees represent the diversity, ingenuity and perseverance of independent restaurateurs who serve outstanding food at accessible prices.

They are businesses built on family legacies, community loyalty and culinary traditions preserved over generations.

THREE YEARS OF DISCOVERY. 25 UNSUNG HEROES. ONE EXTRAORDINARY DUBAI.

The Dubai Premiere was the culmination of approximately three years of research, personal restaurant visits, filming and storytelling by Rashmi Uday Singh.

Over this period, Singh explored and documented over 40 family-run restaurants across Dubai, guided on several occasions by renowned chefs and hospitality personalities who introduced her to their favourite hidden gems.

Unlike conventional hospitality awards, Hospitality Hope has no paid entries, nomination fees or commercial sponsorships. Restaurants are personally visited and evaluated, often without their owners knowing that they are being considered for recognition.

The awards celebrate culinary authenticity, quality, affordability, value for money and, above all, the people whose hard work keeps these family businesses alive.

Among the restaurateurs celebrated were Hugo Palacio of Hugo Grill, Vaisagh Gopinathan of Little Idli, Chef Shinya Hongo of Maru Udon, Arthur Chin of Oriental Fusion, Yaqoob of Pak Liyari, Nakul Meherish of Raju Omlet, Sunny Dsouza of Uncles Kitchen, Nicky Ramchandani of Neighbourhood Food Hall, Michelle Johnson of Pitfire and Chef JP Anglo of Kooya, among others.

For these individuals and families, recognition at the Hospitality Hope Icon Awards represents more than a trophy. It brings their stories, perseverance and culinary contributions to audiences who might otherwise never have discovered them.

RASHMI UDAY SINGH: GIVING BACK TO HOSPITALITY

For Rashmi Uday Singh, the Dubai Premiere marked a deeply personal milestone in a mission rooted in gratitude.

Having spent decades celebrating the world’s most acclaimed chefs and restaurants, in her 40 books, countless columns, international & national TV shows, including 17 years as a regional chairperson for The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy,

Singh established Hospitality Hope to recognise those who rarely enjoy the same international attention.

Reflecting on the evening, Rashmi Uday Singh, Founder, Hospitality Hope, said:

” Exciting, exacting, exhausting…but a thrilling roller coaster ride… thats what researching Dubai s Hospitality Hope icons has been. Also deeply fulfilling as it gives me great joy and keeps me energised & excited. Next stop.Paris…already filmed in 10 hidden gems there.

For three years, I have been discovering and filming these remarkable restaurants, the families behind them and the stories that make them so special. To finally bring 25 of these unsung heroes into the spotlight was an overwhelming moment of joy.

And what made it even more extraordinary was seeing Dubai’s biggest culinary superstars come together, not to celebrate themselves, but to celebrate others. They weren’t there to receive applause. They were there to give it.

Hospitality Hope is my little way of giving back to an industry that has given me so much. Great hospitality isn’t measured by glamour or grandeur. It is measured by the heart behind the food.”

Entirely financed through Singh’s personal savings, Hospitality Hope encompasses extensive research, restaurant visits, professional filming, storytelling and recognition initiatives, with the ambition of giving independent hospitality businesses greater awareness and visibility.

FROM INDIA TO DUBAI: HOSPITALITY HOPE’S INTERNATIONAL JOURNEY

Hospitality Hope was introduced in New York at the invitation of celebrated hospitality personality Will Guidara, before launching its inaugural Icon Awards in Mumbai in May 2024.

The first edition recognised 27 restaurants, including historic Mumbai institutions Pancham Puriwala, established in 1848, and Leopold Café, dating back to 1871.

Subsequent editions in Delhi, Bengaluru, Goa and Ahmedabad continued the initiative’s mission of celebrating independent restaurateurs and the people preserving India’s culinary heritage.

The Dubai Premiere marked the initiative’s first awards ceremony outside India, extending its mission to a destination whose authentic, affordable dining culture is as compelling as its globally recognised luxury restaurants.

Hospitality Hope has also received international recognition, including the Global Community Spirit Award at La Liste in Paris in 2025 and recognition as a Gastronomic Gamechanger by the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.

ICCA DUBAI AND FOODVERSE: TAKING THESE STORIES TO THE WORLD

The International Centre for Culinary Arts (ICCA), Dubai, hosted the inaugural international edition, bringing together two very different but deeply connected worlds: formal culinary education and the invaluable knowledge, traditions and stories carried through family-run kitchens.

Homegrown in the UAE and part of the region’s culinary journey for more than two decades, ICCA Dubai has trained more than 19,000 professional chefs since 2005, ICCA shares Hospitality Hope’s commitment to community and culinary heritage.

Through ICCA’s Foodverse platform, Hospitality Hope will have a dedicated digital space to showcase its awardees, their stories and culinary discoveries, bringing greater visibility to these independent restaurants internationally.

Sunjeh Raja, Founder & CEO, ICCA Dubai, said:

“When Rashmi shared the vision behind Hospitality Hope, the synergy was immediate. We are proud to support its first international edition in Dubai and, through ICCA and Foodverse, help amplify the remarkable restaurants, families and stories at the heart of this initiative.”

The Dubai Premiere demonstrated that the city’s culinary greatness extends far beyond its luxurious dining rooms and internationally celebrated restaurants.

Beyond the bling lies the soul of Dubai: authentic food, extraordinary diversity, accessible prices and the families who have quietly kept its culinary traditions alive.

And for 25 of these unsung heroes, the spotlight finally belonged to them.
