IRCTC Rolls Out Beta Version of Revamped Ticket Booking Website; Full Integration with New Reservation System Soon

New Delhi, July 15: Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched the beta version of its redesigned ticket booking website, offering passengers a faster, cleaner and more intuitive booking experience as part of the ongoing digital transformation of Indian Railways.

The trial version, made available for public feedback from 9:00 PM on July 15, introduces a modern user interface aimed at simplifying online train ticket reservations while improving overall customer experience.

The upgraded portal marks the first major redesign since the IRCTC website was introduced in 2002. Today, the platform handles an average of 14.5 lakh ticket bookings every day, making it one of the country’s busiest online booking systems.

Four Major Improvements

The beta website introduces several customer-centric enhancements designed to reduce booking time and improve convenience:

  • Cleaner Interface: Removal of unnecessary captchas, pop-ups, flashing graphics and distracting elements for a smoother browsing experience.
  • Seat Availability at a Glance: Users can now view seat availability across all travel classes without navigating through multiple pages.
  • Faster Checkout: The booking process has been streamlined by reducing the number of steps required to complete ticket reservations.
  • Saved Passenger Details: Frequent travellers can save passenger information, making repeat bookings quicker and more convenient.

Students Contributed to the Redesign

A unique aspect of the project is the involvement of students from Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur, who shared suggestions during an interaction with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Their recommendations on improving the website’s look and user experience have been incorporated into the beta version.

Indian Railways has invited users to test the new platform and provide feedback, which will be used to refine the portal before its full-scale rollout.

Integration with New Reservation Engine

The redesigned website will soon be integrated with the new Passenger Reservation Engine (PRE), which is also undergoing a comprehensive technology upgrade. The new reservation system is expected to significantly improve booking speed, reliability and scalability while supporting multiple railway booking platforms.

According to Indian Railways, the fully functional upgraded IRCTC portal will become available in the coming weeks once the new reservation engine is operational.

Impact on Hospitality, Travel and Tourism

The upgraded IRCTC platform is expected to positively impact India’s travel and hospitality ecosystem by making railway ticket bookings faster, simpler and more reliable. A smoother booking experience encourages more leisure and business travel, particularly during peak holiday seasons when train reservations witness heavy demand.

For hotels, homestays, tour operators and travel agencies, improved online booking efficiency can translate into higher travel confidence, better trip planning and increased domestic tourism. The upcoming integration with the next-generation Passenger Reservation Engine is also expected to enhance booking stability during high-demand periods, benefiting travellers as well as the wider hospitality and tourism industry through seamless journey planning and improved customer experience.
