New Railway Station Planned Near Khatu Shyam Ji Temple to Strengthen Pilgrimage Tourism

New Delhi, July 7, 2026: Indian Railways has announced plans to develop a new railway station near the renowned Shri Khatu Shyam Ji Temple in Rajasthan, a move expected to significantly improve rail connectivity for millions of devotees while providing a major boost to religious tourism in the region.

The announcement came after Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw met a delegation from the Shri Khatu Shyam Ji Temple Trust from Sikar, along with former Member of Parliament Sumedhanand Saraswati, Rajasthan Minister of State Jhabar Singh Kharra, and representatives of the Shri Shyam Mandir Committee.

During the meeting, discussions focused on strengthening railway infrastructure and enhancing passenger facilities for the growing number of pilgrims visiting the famous temple each year.

Station to Come Up on Sikar–Ringas Rail Corridor

According to the Railway Minister, the proposed station will be constructed on the Sikar–Ringas railway section, between Palsana and Baori Thikria stations.

The project will initially focus on technical and engineering works, including:

  • Construction and integration of the new railway line.
  • Signalling and operational infrastructure.
  • Engineering works on existing railway tracks.
  • Seamless integration with the existing rail network.

Construction of the passenger station building will begin after completion of these technical works.

Designed for Modern Pilgrim Travel

Located approximately 11 kilometres from Shri Khatu Shyam Ji Temple, the new station will combine modern passenger facilities with Rajasthan’s traditional architectural style.

Planned amenities include:

  • Modern booking counters.
  • Spacious waiting halls.
  • Clean and accessible washrooms.
  • Passenger-friendly facilities.
  • Improved circulation and convenience for pilgrims.

The project aims to provide a safer, more comfortable and efficient travel experience for devotees arriving by rail.

Boost for Religious Tourism and Local Economy

The development of the new station is expected to improve accessibility to one of Rajasthan’s most important pilgrimage destinations, which attracts lakhs of devotees annually from across India.

Better rail connectivity is also expected to:

  • Reduce travel time for pilgrims.
  • Improve regional connectivity across Rajasthan.
  • Support local businesses and employment.
  • Strengthen tourism-driven economic activity.
  • Enhance overall railway infrastructure in the Sikar region.

The project aligns with Indian Railways’ broader strategy of developing passenger-centric infrastructure while supporting the mobility needs of religious travellers and local communities.

Hospitality & Tourism Impact

The proposed railway station is expected to create significant opportunities for Rajasthan’s hospitality and tourism sector. Improved accessibility to Shri Khatu Shyam Ji Temple is likely to increase year-round pilgrim arrivals, driving higher demand for hotels, guesthouses, dharamshalas, restaurants, cafés, transport operators and local tour services in Sikar, Ringas and nearby destinations.

The project could also encourage the development of integrated pilgrimage circuits connecting Khatu Shyam Ji with other prominent spiritual destinations in Rajasthan, extending visitor stays and boosting tourism spending. Improved rail connectivity will further benefit local handicrafts, food businesses and small enterprises that rely heavily on religious tourism, reinforcing the region’s position as a key spiritual tourism hub.
