Shivraj Singh Chouhan to Review Flood Damage in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh

The Central Government has stepped up its flood response in Northeast India with Union Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan scheduled to undertake a two-day visit to Assam and Arunachal Pradesh on June 30 and July 1, 2026.

The visit, directed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to assess the flood situation firsthand and accelerate relief, rehabilitation and infrastructure restoration in the affected regions.

During his visit to Guwahati, the Minister will chair a high-level review meeting with senior Assam Government officials to evaluate flood damage to agriculture, villages and key infrastructure while reviewing ongoing relief operations and future assistance requirements.

On July 1, Shri Chouhan will travel to flood-hit areas of Arunachal Pradesh, where he will conduct aerial and ground inspections of affected villages, agricultural fields and relief camps. The Minister is also expected to interact directly with farmers, local communities, women’s groups and youth to assess the effectiveness of relief efforts and identify immediate support needs.

Meetings with the Arunachal Pradesh Government and senior officials will focus on crop loss assessment, farmer compensation, crop insurance settlements and the restoration of damaged roads, bridges, embankments and rural infrastructure.

Hospitality, Travel & Tourism Impact

Although the visit primarily focuses on agriculture and rural rehabilitation, it carries significant implications for the tourism and hospitality sectors across Northeast India.

Floods often disrupt road connectivity, airport access, eco-tourism destinations and local hospitality businesses that depend heavily on seasonal travellers. Faster restoration of roads, bridges and rural infrastructure can help reopen tourist circuits, improve visitor confidence and revive business for hotels, homestays, restaurants and transport operators.

Improved rehabilitation efforts are also expected to benefit community-based tourism and rural homestay projects that have become an important source of livelihood in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
