Centre Intensifies Relief Measures in Flood-Hit Arunachal Pradesh

The Central Government has intensified relief and rehabilitation efforts in flood-affected Arunachal Pradesh, with Union Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan conducting an extensive aerial and ground assessment of the disaster-hit areas alongside Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and Chief Minister Pema Khandu.

The high-level visit, undertaken on the directions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focused on evaluating damage to homes, agriculture, public infrastructure and rural livelihoods while ensuring immediate assistance reaches affected communities.

During the inspection, the delegation visited several flood-affected villages, including areas in Keyi Panyor district, where they interacted directly with residents, reviewed relief operations and assessed the scale of destruction caused by heavy rainfall and flooding.

Centre Assures Comprehensive Relief and Rehabilitation

Addressing affected families, Shri Chouhan assured that every eligible household would receive government support after a detailed assessment of losses.

He announced that families whose homes had been washed away would receive assistance for reconstruction, while damage to agricultural fields, standing crops and livestock would also be evaluated for compensation.

The Minister said immediate relief measures—including food grains, drinking water, medicines and other essential supplies—are already being provided as part of the ongoing emergency response.

Infrastructure Restoration Becomes Priority

Following the field inspection, Shri Chouhan chaired a high-level review meeting in Itanagar with Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and senior officials.

The meeting reviewed ongoing rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts while directing officials to expedite damage assessment, restore road connectivity, repair bridges and revive electricity and communication networks affected by the floods.

The Minister stressed that there should be no delay in extending assistance and called for close coordination between the Central and State Governments to restore normalcy at the earliest.

During the visit, Shri Chouhan also joined local residents engaged in repairing a damaged road and constructing a protective embankment to prevent further flooding.

He praised the proactive response of local communities, noting that villagers had begun restoration work even before formal government assistance reached the area, demonstrating resilience and collective responsibility during the crisis.

According to the Minister, the Centre will continue working with the Arunachal Pradesh Government on both immediate relief and long-term scientific solutions to improve disaster preparedness and flood resilience in the state.
