From navigating global uncertainty to shaping the future of experience-led luxury, Rutuja Patil, Account Director, Leisure Sales (India) at Atlantis Dubai, shares insights from her journey in hospitality and travel, the evolving behaviour of Indian luxury travellers, and how Atlantis Dubai — with Atlantis, The Palm, Atlantis The Royal and Aquaventure World — is positioning itself as more than a resort, but a complete destination experience.

You have built your career in the hospitality and travel industry and are now leading leisure sales for India at Atlantis Dubai. Could you take us through your professional journey—some of the experiences and turning points that shaped you, and what brought you to your current role at Atlantis Dubai?

My journey in the hospitality and travel industry has been an exciting and rewarding one, shaped by my passion for people, relationships, and creating memorable experiences. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with diverse markets, understand evolving traveller expectations, and build strong relationships with travel trade partners experiences that have played a significant role in shaping my professional approach.

One of the biggest turning points in my career has been recognising that success in hospitality goes beyond selling a product or a destination. It’s about understanding what truly matters to the customer, building trust, and creating experiences that leave a lasting impression. Working in this industry has taught me the importance of adaptability, cultural understanding, and maintaining strong partnerships, particularly in a dynamic and competitive market like India.

Joining Atlantis Dubai has been a particularly exciting chapter in my career. Atlantis is not just a hospitality destination; it is an experience that resonates with travellers across generations and markets. Leading leisure sales for India gives me the opportunity to combine my industry experience and market understanding with the strength of an internationally recognised destination. India is a diverse and opportunity-rich market, with travellers increasingly seeking distinctive, high-quality experiences, and it is exciting to be part of a team that can deliver something truly memorable.

Reflecting on my journey, each experience and opportunity has played a valuable role in shaping my career and contributing to where I am today. Looking ahead, I am excited to continue building meaningful partnerships, unlocking new growth opportunities within the Indian market, and helping even more travellers discover the extraordinary experiences that Atlantis Dubai has to offer.

The past year has tested the resilience of the global travel and hospitality industry. From your perspective at Atlantis Dubai, what has this period taught you about managing uncertainty while continuing to deliver an uncompromised luxury guest experience?

The past year has reinforced that resilience in hospitality is not simply about responding to uncertainty, but about remaining agile, staying close to our guests and partners, and continuing to look ahead with confidence. At Atlantis Dubai, we have navigated a uniquely disrupted operating year while remaining focused on what has always defined our proposition: delivering extraordinary experiences. With two of the world’s most awarded resorts, Atlantis, The Palm and Atlantis The Royal, alongside an exceptional culinary portfolio and Aquaventure World, one of the world’s largest waterparks, we have continued to invest in delivering new experiences that give guests compelling reasons to visit

Guests continue to seek memorable, seamless and highly personalised experiences, and our role is to ensure that we can deliver these with the same level of excellence, regardless of the external environment. As we look ahead, the story for Atlantis Dubai is one of resilience and continued growth. We remain confident in the strength of the Atlantis brand and in Dubai’s position as a leading global luxury destination, while continuing to evolve our offering to meet the expectations of our guests and partners.

As travel patterns continue to evolve, what changes are you seeing among Indian luxury travellers in terms of booking behaviour, length of stay, travel companions, spending patterns and the experiences they now prioritise?

Indian luxury travellers are becoming more selective about how they spend their time and money when they travel. We are seeing a clear shift towards more experience-led holidays, where the stay is not just about the hotel, but about the overall experience and what they can do and enjoy at the destination. From a booking perspective, flexibility and convenience are becoming increasingly important, particularly when planning family and multi-generational travel. We are also seeing strong demand for celebrations and family holidays, alongside couples and smaller groups looking for more elevated leisure experiences.

During periods of uncertainty, the role of the travel advisor becomes even more important. How has your relationship with the Indian travel trade evolved, and what are the conversations you are having with partners to rebuild confidence and inspire travel to Dubai?

During periods of uncertainty, I think the relationship with our travel trade partners becomes even more important. Our focus was really on staying close to the trade, communicating consistently and sharing as much information as possible, so our partners always felt informed and supported. We kept the conversations open throughout the period and made sure they had the information they needed to speak confidently to their clients. That consistency is now paying off, and we are seeing great momentum coming back from the Indian market. It has been really encouraging to see the confidence returning and the strength of the relationships we have built with our partners over the years.

Luxury travellers today increasingly look beyond accommodation for dining, wellness, entertainment, family experiences and exclusive access. How is Atlantis Dubai positioning itself as a complete destination experience rather than simply a luxury resort?

For Atlantis Dubai, our focus is really on differentiating through the scale and breadth of the experience, rather than competing purely on accommodation. We have two iconic resorts — Atlantis, The Palm and Atlantis The Royal, each with its own distinct identity, alongside a significant culinary portfolio, Aquaventure World and a wide range of leisure and entertainment experiences.

Atlantis Dubai wears several hats that perhaps no other property can claim, and we’re incredibly proud of that. From being home to the region’s most Michelin-awarded dining destination, to Atlantis The Royal Ranking No. 4 on The World’s 50 Best Hotels list and being recognized with Three Michelin Keys, to being home to one of the world’s largest waterparks, the level of recognition across the destination is a real testament to what we’ve built. For our guests, it means they can come to Atlantis and have a very different experience every time, whether that’s dining, wellness, adventure, entertainment or simply spending time together as a family. That’s what makes Atlantis much more than just a place to stay.

Initiatives such as ‘A Dubai Invite’ reflect a more collaborative approach to destination marketing. How do you see residents, travel advisors, hotels and tourism stakeholders becoming advocates for Dubai—and what does this mean for the future of destination marketing?

I think initiatives such as ‘A Dubai Invite’ are a great example of how destination marketing is becoming more collaborative. Dubai has invited residents to become ambassadors of the city through ‘A Dubai Invite’, providing those who know the destination best with a simple and rewarding way to welcome loved ones to Dubai and create memorable experiences together. Developed by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), the programme is running until 31 October 2026, delivering tangible benefits to the community of nearly 200 nationalities who invite family and friends to experience the city. Among the benefits available through the programme are discounts of up to 45% on stays and 100% room-rate-equivalent resort credits at participating hotels. Early uptake has also been strong, with thousands of applications reportedly received within days of the launch. During such times, we think the community plays a big role in rebuilding trust, and for most of the Indians, Dubai is a second home. When residents, travel advisors, hotels and tourism stakeholders all become advocates for the destination, it makes the message much more authentic and personal.

Dubai has already established itself as a global luxury tourism powerhouse. What do you think will define its next chapter—and where do you see the biggest opportunities for Atlantis Dubai within that evolution?

For Atlantis Dubai, our biggest opportunity is to keep creating extraordinary experiences that give guests a reason to choose Atlantis and, importantly, to keep coming back. We have the scale, the breadth and the platform to keep evolving what a luxury resort experience can look like, and our focus is on continuing to innovate while staying true to what makes Atlantis distinctive. We saw a great example of this at the Michelin Guide Dubai 2026, where Atlantis Dubai retained six Michelin stars across four restaurants, with a further five restaurants receiving Michelin Guide recognition, along with two special awards for standout talent. It is a great reflection of the depth of what we offer, and of our focus on continually creating experiences that keep Atlantis relevant and exciting for our guests.

If we look ahead over the next 12–18 months, what would you like to see change in the Indian luxury travel market, and what would make you say that Dubai and Atlantis have entered a stronger, more confident phase of growth?

Looking ahead over the next 12–18 months, I would like to see the Indian luxury travel market evolve from being primarily volume-driven to becoming more experience and value-driven. Indian luxury travellers are increasingly sophisticated, well-travelled, and willing to spend on unique, personalized experiences rather than simply choosing a destination based on price or convenience. For Atlantis, we see strong opportunities in deeper engagement with affluent and ultra-high-net-worth travellers, luxury lifestyle communities, private banking networks, concierge companies, and experiential travel specialists, which aligns with several strategic partnerships currently being explored.

What would signal a stronger, more confident phase of growth for Dubai and Atlantis is not just an increase in visitor numbers, but a sustained rise in premium demand. That means higher-value bookings, stronger suites and penthouses performance, increased repeat visitation, longer lengths of stay, and greater demand from luxury leisure, MICE, and celebration travel segments. It would also mean that Atlantis continues to be recognized not simply as a hotel, but as a destination experience that travellers specifically plan their trip around. For Indian travellers, supported by excellent air connectivity, year-round demand, and a broader perception of Dubai as a destination for exclusive experiences, wellness, gastronomy, entertainment, and bespoke luxury.

Ultimately, I would consider it a strong growth phase when Atlantis is capturing a larger share of India’s premium travel segment, attracting more first-time luxury travellers while also building greater loyalty among repeat guests, and when Dubai continues to be viewed as one of the most aspirational and accessible luxury destinations globally.
