Mumbai, June 2026 — Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) hosted one of its most ambitious trade engagement initiatives to date — the Mauritius Mega FAM Trip 2026, welcoming 20 of India’s leading travel trade professionals to the island nation from 23 to 29 May 2026. The programme was a powerful statement of Mauritius’ unwavering focus on deepening its partnership with the Indian travel trade and reinforcing its standing as a premier destination for Indian outbound travellers.
Over seven immersive days, participants were taken on a carefully curated journey through the very best that Mauritius has to offer, from its world-class resort experiences and diverse accommodation portfolio to its rich cultural landmarks and unique experiential offerings. The itinerary included visits to iconic sites such as Sugar World, Château de Labourdonnais, Apravasi Ghat, La Citadelle, and the stunning Île aux Cerfs, alongside a Port Louis Food Tour, a memorable sunset cruise in Grand Baie, and exclusive networking sessions with key tourism stakeholders and hospitality partners on the island.

The FAM trip was designed to equip travel trade professionals with firsthand destination knowledge, enabling them to confidently position and sell Mauritius to their clients, and the response from participants was resoundingly positive.
The timing of this initiative comes on the back of remarkable momentum from the Indian market. From January to mid-May 2026, Mauritius welcomed 25,930 Indian visitors, reflecting a strong 19.1% year-on-year growth over the same period in 2025. These figures are a clear testament to the growing affinity between Indian travellers and Mauritius, and underscore the importance of sustained trade engagement initiatives such as this Mega FAM.
Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Dinesh Burrenchobay, Chairman, Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, said: “India is one of Mauritius’ most valued and fastest-growing source markets, and this Mega FAM Trip reflects our deep commitment to nurturing that relationship. By giving India’s travel trade community, a firsthand experience of our destination, we are investing in partnerships that will drive sustained growth and bring more Indian travellers to our shores.”
Mr. Sunil Mathapati, Country Manager, MTPA India, added: “The Indian travel trade is one of the most dynamic and influential in the world, and their understanding of Mauritius directly shapes the choices of thousands of travellers. This FAM was our way of showing them everything we have to offer, and we are confident that the experiences they take back will translate into tremendous results for both sides.”
As Indian outbound travel continues its strong upward trajectory, Mauritius remains firmly positioned as a destination of choice, offering an unmatched blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and world-class hospitality.
