Northeast Fisheries and Dairy Infrastructure Push Signals New Opportunities for Food, Hospitality and Tourism Sectors

AIZAWL, MIZORAM, May 24, 2026: The Government of India is set to strengthen the Northeast’s fisheries, dairy and livestock ecosystem with projects worth ₹32.15 crore, as the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying convenes its Regional Review Meeting in Aizawl on May 25.

The meeting, chaired by Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh), will bring together ministers and senior officials from all eight Northeastern states to review progress under key government programmes and chart strategies for sustainable sectoral growth.

Among the major announcements planned during the event are the launch of a baseline survey aimed at expanding Multipurpose Dairy Cooperative Societies (MDCS), an African Swine Fever awareness campaign, a livestock best-practices handbook, and the introduction of MULCO Cow Ghee produced by the Mizoram Milk Producers Co-operative Union.

A significant hospitality-linked development is the inauguration of the Mizo Café, which is expected to showcase regional food products and local culinary traditions. Such initiatives align with growing efforts to promote indigenous food experiences and strengthen destination branding across Northeast India.

The Centre will also inaugurate and lay foundation stones for fisheries and aquaculture projects funded under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and the Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF).

Officials are expected to focus discussions on improving production, strengthening cold-chain and value-chain infrastructure, enhancing market access and promoting exports from the region. The meeting will also feature interactions with fisheries beneficiaries, entrepreneurs and cooperatives, highlighting successful grassroots models.
