Indian Railways’ Digital Journey Picks Up Pace with RailOne App
Indian Railways has reported significant growth in digital passenger services, with the RailOne App crossing 4.55 crore downloads since its launch on July 1, 2025, reinforcing the government’s push towards seamless, technology-driven rail travel.
According to information shared in the Lok Sabha by Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the app now facilitates an average of 9.65 lakh ticket bookings every day, including 2.75 lakh reserved tickets and 6.89 lakh unreserved tickets.
RailOne integrates multiple passenger services into a single platform, including reserved and unreserved ticket booking, platform tickets, PNR status, train enquiry and RailMadad grievance services, offering travellers a unified digital experience.
Online Ticketing Dominates Passenger Preferences
Digital adoption continues to grow rapidly across the railway network.
Between June 2025 and June 2026, Indian Railways booked 65.08 crore reserved tickets, of which:
- 57.90 crore (89%) were booked online.
- 7.18 crore (11%) were booked through reservation counters.
The figures underline the increasing preference for digital booking channels among railway passengers.
RailMadad Maintains High Passenger Satisfaction
Indian Railways’ grievance redressal platform RailMadad handled 6,94,368 passenger assistance cases during FY 2025-26, achieving 89.49% excellent and satisfactory feedback from users.
The platform allows passengers to raise complaints or seek assistance through the RailMadad website, mobile app, SMS and the 139 helpline, while an automated complaint assignment and escalation mechanism ensures faster resolution.
The grievance resolution rate has consistently remained above 99.98% over the past three years.
Railways Tighten Cyber Security Against Ticketing Fraud
To safeguard online reservations, Indian Railways has strengthened multiple layers of cyber security and fraud prevention.
Since January 2024, authorities have:
- Deactivated over 6.68 crore suspicious user accounts.
- Temporarily suspended over 6.22 crore accounts pending verification.
- Blocked 13,343 suspicious email domains.
- Filed 530 complaints on the National Cyber Crime Portal related to suspicious bookings.
The ministry clarified that no user accounts were deactivated solely for not linking Aadhaar.
To improve fairness in Tatkal bookings, only Aadhaar-verified users are now permitted to book Tatkal and Advance Reservation Period (ARP) tickets, with OTP-based Aadhaar authentication introduced on selected trains.
Advanced Technology Helps Combat Bots and Cyber Threats
Indian Railways has also deployed advanced cyber security infrastructure, including:
- Content Delivery Network (CDN)
- Anti-BOT technology
- Web Application Firewalls
- Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection
- Deep and Dark Web monitoring
- Continuous monitoring through CERT-In and NCIIPC
During the first six months of 2026 alone, the system handled an average of 15.38 billion online requests every month, of which 57.74% were identified as automated bot traffic and successfully blocked before reaching the ticketing system.
Crackdown on Railway Touts Continues
As part of its anti-fraud campaign, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested 22,676 touts between 2021 and June 2026 under provisions of the Railways Act, helping curb unauthorized ticket sales and improve access for genuine passengers.
Impact on Travel & Tourism
The rapid adoption of the RailOne App reflects India’s growing digital travel ecosystem. A single platform for ticket booking, journey information and passenger support simplifies trip planning for leisure and business travellers alike. For the hospitality and tourism industry, easier access to rail travel is expected to encourage greater domestic tourism, improve connectivity to destinations and enhance the overall visitor experience. Simultaneously, stronger cyber security measures and anti-fraud mechanisms help build greater trust in India’s digital transportation infrastructure.
