Ernakulam Receives ₹8.85 Crore Under PMMSY to Boost Modern Aquaculture and Fisheries Infrastructure

New Delhi, July 28: The Government of India has allocated ₹8.85 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) for fisheries development in Ernakulam Parliamentary Constituency as part of Kerala’s larger fisheries modernisation programme.

According to the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Kerala has received approvals for fisheries development projects worth ₹1,413.91 crore under PMMSY during the last five years and the current financial year.

The Centre noted that district-wise fund allocation and beneficiary selection under PMMSY are carried out by the respective state governments and Union Territory administrations.

₹8.62 Crore Already Released

As reported by the Government of Kerala, projects worth ₹8.85 crore have been approved for Ernakulam, of which ₹8.62 crore has already been released.

The approved projects are currently at different stages of implementation.

Focus on Modern Aquaculture

The projects sanctioned for Ernakulam include several technology-driven and sustainable fisheries initiatives aimed at improving fish production and supporting fisheries entrepreneurs.

Key activities include:

• Biofloc aquaculture systems
• Recirculatory Aquaculture Systems (RAS)
• Brackishwater aquaculture
• Cage culture
• Ornamental fisheries
• Fish marketing kiosks

These interventions are expected to promote scientific aquaculture, strengthen local fish marketing and improve value addition across the fisheries sector.

No Pending Proposal

The Ministry clarified that no proposal from Ernakulam Parliamentary Constituency is currently pending with the Department of Fisheries, indicating that all submissions received from the state have already been processed.
