ICAR Reviews Digital Training Courses Under Mission Karmayogi
New Delhi, October 7, 2026: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has reviewed the development and digitisation of domain-specific online courses for the iGOT Karmayogi platform, directing its institutes to accelerate course preparation, maintain quality standards and meet prescribed timelines.
The online review meeting was organised by ICAR’s Agricultural Education Division and chaired by Dr. M. L. Jat, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and Director General of ICAR.
The meeting focused on assessing progress across ICAR institutes and ensuring that learning materials are reviewed internally and uploaded to the iGOT Karmayogi platform in accordance with established guidelines.
Addressing participants, Dr. Jat called for high-quality, domain-specific courses supported by proper internal review. He stressed the importance of completing assigned work within stipulated deadlines and strengthening regular learning among employees.
He also emphasised that all ICAR employees should undertake at least two hours of learning regularly on the iGOT Karmayogi platform, urging institutes to ensure active participation and completion of assigned learning hours.
Focus on Course Quality, Digitisation and Employee Capacity Building
Dr. Yashpal Singh Malik, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Education), ICAR, highlighted the need for timely action by all institutes to strengthen the organisation’s performance under Mission Karmayogi. He also stressed active institutional participation to improve ICAR’s national-level ranking under the initiative.
During the meeting, Ashwin, an expert from Karmayogi Bharat, explained the processes involved in developing and digitising online courses. He also briefed participants on empanelled agencies available for course development and provided technical inputs to facilitate the preparation and uploading of digital learning content.
The review concluded with directions to expedite course development, strengthen quality checks, complete assigned learning hours and ensure that domain-specific courses are uploaded within the prescribed timelines.
What Is the iGOT Karmayogi Platform?
The iGOT Karmayogi platform is a digital learning initiative associated with Mission Karmayogi, the Government of India’s programme for capacity building among civil servants.
The platform supports online learning and professional development, enabling government employees to access training resources and build skills relevant to their roles.
For ICAR, domain-specific courses can support the continuous development of technical and professional capabilities across agricultural research, education and institutional administration.
Impact on Hospitality, Food and Tourism
Although the ICAR review primarily concerns employee training and agricultural research institutions, the wider focus on digital capacity building has potential relevance for India’s food and hospitality ecosystem.
- Agricultural knowledge and food supply chains: Stronger professional capabilities within agricultural research institutions could support the dissemination of relevant knowledge to farmers and stakeholders across food production and supply chains.
- Food processing and quality: Training in specialised agricultural domains may indirectly support research and knowledge transfer relevant to raw-material quality, food processing and value addition.
- Hospitality procurement: Hotels, restaurants and food service businesses depend on agricultural supply chains. Improvements in agricultural research and knowledge dissemination could contribute to better-informed sourcing practices over time.
- Sustainable tourism: Better agricultural knowledge and stronger rural production systems could support farm-based tourism and regional food experiences, depending on how research findings are translated into practice.
These are potential indirect benefits. The PIB announcement does not specify hospitality or tourism projects, funding or measurable industry outcomes linked to the review.
Next Steps
ICAR has called on its institutes to complete course development and digitisation, maintain quality through internal review and ensure regular employee participation in online learning.
The review reflects the organisation’s focus on structured digital training and continuous professional development under Mission Karmayogi. Its effectiveness will depend on timely implementation, the quality and relevance of the courses, and sustained participation by employees.
