Indian Railways is accelerating its railway station modernisation push in Rajasthan, with 15 redeveloped stations including Jaisalmer, Bundi, Barmer, Mandalgarh and Somesar now operational with upgraded passenger amenities under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with Union Minister Bhupender Yadav and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, virtually laid the foundation stone and dedicated railway projects worth over ₹400 crore in Rajasthan.

Alwar Railway Station Redevelopment Progressing Rapidly
The redevelopment of Alwar Railway Station is being carried out under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at an estimated cost of ₹112 crore.
Located on the busy Delhi–Jaipur route, the station is being upgraded to handle growing passenger traffic while improving connectivity and commuter experience.

Key features of the redevelopment project include:
- Dual-side station entry and exit facilities
- One additional high-level platform
- Two 6-metre-wide foot overbridges
- Nine modern lifts
- Dedicated pick-up and drop-off zones
- Expanded parking facilities across 4,500 sq. metres
- Improved traffic circulation planning
The new station complex will be spread over nearly 16,000 square metres and designed to reflect Rajasthan’s traditional architectural heritage while incorporating modern passenger infrastructure.
Hospitality and Tourism Sector Expected to Benefit
The redevelopment of railway stations across Rajasthan is expected to improve tourist accessibility and support hospitality growth across major travel destinations.

Enhanced rail infrastructure at cities such as:
- Jaisalmer
- Bikaner
- Udaipur
- Jodhpur
could strengthen domestic tourism, improve hotel occupancy and support local businesses linked to heritage tourism, desert tourism and pilgrimage travel.
Officials said the Alwar station redevelopment will also create nearly 1,900 sq. metres of commercial space, supporting retail activity and local employment.
15 Redeveloped Stations Already Operational
According to Indian Railways, redevelopment work has been completed at 15 stations across Rajasthan under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

Completed stations include:
- Jaisalmer
- Barmer
- Bundi
- Dausa
- Deeg
- Deshnok
- Fatehpur Shekhawati
- Gangapur City
- Gogamedi
- Govind Garh
- Rajgarh
- Khairthal
- Mandalgarh
- Mandawar Mahwa Road
- Somesar
Across India, 1,340 railway stations have been identified for redevelopment under the scheme.
Rajasthan Rail Connectivity Expanding Rapidly
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that Rajasthan currently operates:
- Five Vande Bharat Express services
- One Amrit Bharat Express service
Recent additions include:
- Delhi–Jodhpur Vande Bharat Express
- Delhi–Bikaner Vande Bharat Express
- Udaipur City–Ahmedabad Vande Bharat Express
- Swarna Nagri Express between Jaisalmer and Delhi
The Minister said 46 new trains have been introduced for Rajasthan in recent years.
Major Infrastructure Projects Underway
Indian Railways is also progressing with multiple rail infrastructure projects across Rajasthan, including:
- Agra–Bandikui doubling
- Ajmer–Chittorgarh doubling
- Mathura–Nagda third and fourth lines
- Pushkar–Merta City new line
- Taranga Hill–Abu Road new line
- Sheopur Kalan–Kota new line
Additionally, 10 Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals have already been commissioned across Rajasthan, strengthening freight movement for sectors including cement, textiles, handicrafts and engineering goods.
Railway Investment in Rajasthan Sees Sharp Rise

According to the Ministry, Rajasthan’s railway budget allocation has increased from around ₹682 crore earlier to ₹10,228 crore under the current government.
The Railway Minister added that nearly 3,900 kilometres of railway tracks have been laid in Rajasthan since 2014, significantly improving passenger and freight connectivity across the state.
