The RailOne app has reached 4.76 crore downloads, while recording an average of around 10 lakh ticket bookings every day, as Indian Railways continues to expand its digital passenger services.

Launched on July 1, 2025, RailOne brings several public-facing railway services onto a single mobile platform, allowing passengers to book reserved, unreserved and platform tickets, check train and PNR information and access passenger support services.

The latest figures were shared by Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting and Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw in a reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.

RailOne records 10 lakh daily ticket bookings

As of August 2, 2026, RailOne was recording an average of 10 lakh ticket transactions a day.

Of these:

  • 2.79 lakh were reserved tickets
  • 7.24 lakh were unreserved tickets
  • Total downloads stood at 4.76 crore

The app is designed around a single-sign-on (SSO) facility, allowing passengers to access multiple Indian Railways services without having to download several separate applications or remember multiple passwords.

Digital railway ticketing continues to expand

Indian Railways has seen a significant increase in digital ticket booking over the past decade.

Currently, approximately 89% of reserved tickets are booked online, compared with about 49% in 2013-14.

For unreserved travel, tickets booked through non-counter modes have increased to nearly 39%, indicating a growing shift towards mobile and digital ticketing.

NTES handles over 6 crore enquiries daily

Alongside RailOne, the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) continues to provide passengers with near real-time information on train operations.

NTES offers information including:

  • Train arrival and departure status
  • Train schedules
  • Spot Your Train
  • Live Station information
  • Trains between stations

The service is available through the NTES website, Android and iOS applications, enquiry counters and the 139 Rail Enquiry Number.

As of August 1, 2026, the NTES mobile applications had recorded more than 4.5 crore Android downloads and 16 lakh iOS downloads.

The system currently handles around 80,000 concurrent users and more than 6 crore enquiries every day.

Digital information services reduce queues at railway counters

The availability of near real-time train information through digital channels has reduced passengers’ dependence on railway enquiry counters.

According to the government, this has helped reduce queues and waiting time at physical enquiry counters, allowing passengers to access train information remotely.

Automatic refunds available for cancelled e-tickets

Indian Railways’ Next Generation e-Ticketing (NGeT) system automatically initiates the refund process when a train is cancelled.

For eligible online e-tickets, the refund process begins immediately after the scheduled departure time and the applicable amount is credited to the passenger’s bank account.

The facility currently applies to e-tickets booked online. Passengers holding counter tickets must visit a Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counter to obtain the applicable refund.

Impact on travel, tourism and hospitality

The expansion of RailOne and NTES has direct relevance for India’s travel and tourism ecosystem, where rail remains a major mode of passenger movement.

Easier travel planning: Integrated ticketing and real-time train information can make it easier for tourists to plan journeys, check schedules and manage travel disruptions.

Reduced waiting time: Digital access to ticketing and train information can reduce queues at railway stations and enquiry counters, improving the overall passenger experience.

Greater convenience for tourists: Having reserved, unreserved and platform ticketing on one platform simplifies railway travel, particularly for visitors unfamiliar with India’s rail system.

Hotels and hospitality: More seamless rail travel can support tourist movement to destinations, indirectly benefiting hotels, restaurants, local transport providers and attractions.

Travel operators: Real-time train information can help tour operators and travel planners coordinate itineraries more efficiently and respond quickly to delays or cancellations.

Digital-first tourism: The growing share of online ticketing also reflects the broader shift towards mobile-first travel planning and service delivery.

Bottom line

With 4.76 crore downloads and 10 lakh daily ticket bookings, RailOne is becoming an important digital gateway to Indian Railways’ passenger services. Combined with NTES’ 6 crore-plus daily enquiries, the expansion of digital railway services is helping make train travel more accessible, information-driven and convenient—an important development for both domestic mobility and India’s tourism ecosystem.
