New Delhi, August 1, 2026: Indian Railways has approved a new daily Express train between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Mumbai and Sawantwadi Road, strengthening rail connectivity between the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Maharashtra’s Konkan coast.

The approximately 510-km service will provide a direct rail option for passengers travelling between Mumbai and southern Konkan, supporting tourism, education, employment, business and regional mobility.

The service will operate as Train No. 15087 CSMT–Sawantwadi Road Express and Train No. 15088 Sawantwadi Road–CSMT Express.

22 Stations to Receive Commercial Stops

The new service will provide commercial stoppages at key stations across the route, including:

Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Pen, Roha, Mangaon, Veer, Khed, Chiplun, Savarda, Aravali Road, Sangameshwar Road, Ratnagiri, Adavali, Valivade, Rajapur Road, Vaibhavwadi Road, Nandgaon Road, Kankavli, Sindhudurg, Kudal and Sawantwadi Road.

The extensive station coverage will improve access to towns and tourism centres along the Konkan coast while providing an additional direct rail connection to Mumbai.

New Rail Link Could Give Konkan Tourism a Boost

The service is particularly significant for Maharashtra’s tourism sector.

The Konkan region is known for its beaches, forts, temples, coastal landscapes, local cuisine and eco-tourism experiences. Improved direct connectivity from Mumbai could make these destinations more accessible to leisure travellers.

For hotels, resorts, homestays and restaurants across Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and other Konkan destinations, the additional daily service could expand the potential visitor base from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The route also opens opportunities for tourism operators to develop weekend getaways, coastal circuits, culinary experiences and multi-destination Konkan itineraries linked to the new rail service.

Benefits Beyond Tourism

The new train is also expected to support students, commuters, traders, small businesses and residents travelling between Mumbai and southern Maharashtra.

For the wider regional economy, better rail access can facilitate business travel and movement between urban centres and smaller towns.

The service could also reduce dependence on road travel for some passengers while providing a more convenient option for long-distance regional journeys.

Strengthening Mumbai–Konkan Connectivity

The new daily Express adds capacity to a corridor that is important for both tourism and regional economic activity.

By connecting Mumbai directly with key destinations in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, Indian Railways is strengthening the Konkan region’s accessibility while supporting balanced regional development.

Bottom Line: The new CSMT–Sawantwadi Road Express is more than a passenger connectivity enhancement for Maharashtra. Its 510-km daily service could become an important enabler for Konkan tourism, giving hotels, resorts, restaurants and destination operators better access to Mumbai’s large travel market and making the region’s coastal and cultural attractions easier to reach.
